The Mind of Christ

"Prayer and Meditation have an important part to play in opening up new ways and new horizons. If your prayer is the Expression of a deep and Grace-Inspired desire for newness of life, and not the mere blind attachment to what has always been familiar and "safe" - God will act in us and through us to renew the Church by preparing, in prayer, what we cannot yet imagine or understand. In this way our prayer and faith today will be oriented toward the future which we ourselves may never see fully realized on earth."
Thomas Merton - Contemplation in a World of Action

It is here, in prayer and contemplation with and in The Mind of Christ, that we meet with God. Prayer as a conversation with, and in God; not something that we can possibly say or verbally communicate, but more of offering to seek the "Mind of Christ" within the spiritual realm. This allows us to enter into the space, or time (Kairos) that we can share in or experience something of the "Mind of Christ."

As we seek, we often find. As we speak, we must be prepared to listen (Obsculta). If our prayer is pointed towards God, with others and allowing the otherness (not "familiar and safe") to reveal something other than self (mind of man), we allow ourselves to experience the newness of life Merton speaks of; Renewal for the body of Christ, the Church.

Imagine what it might look like if "we orient ourselves toward the future," allowing for the Grace of God to enter into our lives. We can only orient ourselves towards the future by way of seeking our roots, a return to our self with Christ as a compass. Expression with our very life which will become the prayer, by way of a prayerful life. Devotion and desire for God; The Mind of Christ.

Pax,

...and happy birthday Jesse.
